A play environment that invites anyone to instinctively jump in and move their body.
詳細説明
The concept of the SAPIENCE series is “intellectual playground equipment for humanity.”
Conventional playground equipment is typically structured around columns and decks, combined with panels, slides, ladders, and walkways, with decorative motifs such as trees or animals added on top. Because these elements offer little variation in play function, the nature of play itself tends not to change significantly. Although new concepts were sometimes introduced through collaborations with external designers, such designers were often unable to design the underlying structural systems, making it difficult to develop expandable, systematized playground products.
In response, the development team chose to design the structural system entirely in-house. By eliminating platforms and allowing the columns and beams themselves to become elements of play, they sought to greatly expand the range of play experiences and stimulate children’s creativity. This led to the adoption of a spiral structure. As the spiral gradually changes in height, entry routes differ depending on a child’s age and physical ability, enabling a wide variety of play patterns.
During the design process, the team recognized that unstable footing could resonate with the experience of playing in natural environments. This insight led to the incorporation of the golden ratio, a principle often found in nature and considered an inevitable value reached through biological evolution. Examples include the spirals of shells and the arrangement of leaves in succulents. Through the integration of the spiral structure and the golden ratio—both natural elements—the concept of “intellectual playground equipment for humanity” took shape.
The circular-based design also creates continuity of movement, encouraging children to keep playing without remaining in one place.
